Rare river otter spotted near Boulder

Kitchi?! Probably not.  A report in the Boulder Daily Camera says photos taken by a motion-activated wildlife surveillance camera offer the first documented sighting of an endangered North American River Otter near Boulder in about 100 years.

The otter was photographed eating a sucker fish near Boulder Creek east of downtown Boulder.

While not common, the endangered otters are still around after being reintroduced to the state decades ago.

When asked if this guy could be Kitchi, the otter that escaped the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in 2010, Parks and Wildlife said it was very doubtful. (Photo:Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks)
