Rare morning storms bring hail, lightning, high stream levels

Parts of Colorado Springs were jolted awake Tuesday morning by claps of thunder and hail -- a relatively rare occurrence for that time of day. Lightning hit a home near Rangewood and Bitterroot, damaging a bathroom vent. Construction of new luxury town homes at Woodmen and Union was halted for the day due to muddy conditions. Cottonwood Creek was running swiftly and full, creating dangerous conditions along the banks.

Colorado Springs Fire Department officials say people need stay away from drainage areas and small creeks in stormy weather due to the threat of flash-flooding.
