ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) - Dennis Allen preached passion and discipline as he was formally introduced as the new head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders held a news conference for Allen on Monday and those two themes were repeated often by the first-time head coach. Oakland hired the 39-year-old Allen last week to replace Hue Jackson, who was fired after going 8-8 in his only season as head coach.

New general manager Reggie McKenzie said he was targeting Allen from the outset of his search and was extremely impressed by his two interviews. Allen takes over a franchise that has not had a winning record or made the playoffs for nine straight seasons and that set an NFL record for penalties and yards penalized last season.
