Cotter allowed to dump radioactive sludge

CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) - State health officials say allowing a uranium mill to dump 90,000 gallons of radioactive sludge and solvents into an impoundment pond will not hurt groundwater.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment says underground barriers will keep the water confined.
A judge rejected a request earlier this month by the state health department and Cotter Corp. to dismiss the residents' lawsuit.
A group of citizens and other environmental advocates tell the Denver Post they want the courts to review the decision.
