The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office expects to file charges against a woman who allegedly tried to sell radioactive metal to a scrap metal recycling company.
On Monday American Iron and Metal called the Sheriff's Office with a report that a woman had brought in metal which set off gamma radiation monitors. The woman left before deputies arrived.
Officers were able to find the woman after about 24 hours. She's identified as Denise Rader, 52. According to the Sheriff's report, she was able to show the investigating deputy where she had found the metal. She had returned it to that location, an abandoned property in eastern Pueblo County.
A Colorado State Patrol HazMat Technician says it does not pose an immediate risk to the public. The owner of the property was not immediately located.
Charges may be filed against Rader after the property owner is located.
