Puppy mill bust brings 57 dogs to El Paso County

57 dogs in need of serious medical care were rescued from a puppy mill in Oklahoma and driven to El Paso County by volunteers from the National Mill Dog Rescue.

The dogs- of several shapes, sizes, and breeds- have spent most of their lives in cages barely larger than themselves. Many have decaying teeth and bones, have given birth several times, and are so matted they need to be completely shaved. No longer of use to their breeders, rescuers say they were facing death.

The dogs are being evaluated and treated by voluntary veterinarians and behavioral specialists to prepare for adoption into loving homes. The National Mill Dog Resuce is a non-profit organization operating out of Peyton, Colorado; to donate to their cause you can visit milldogrescue.org.
