Pueblo West senior Ian Imamura can add another honor to a long list of accolades. Imamura has been selected as this week's "Loaf ‘N Jug High School Athlete of the Week."
Imamura was part of the Pueblo West basketball team that made it all the way to the 4A boys Final Four before losing a heartbreaker to Windsor last Thursday. Ian scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds that that game.
But basketball only tells part of the story. Ian was a tight end on the Cyclones football team. At the end of the season he became the first Puebloan to ever win the prestigious Denver Post "Gold Helmet" award. The criteria for that coveted honor include football ability, academics, and character.
Ian was captain of both the football and basketball teams and is senior class president at Pueblo West.
Imamura told News First 5 Sports Director Lee Douglas this has been one of the best years of his entire life. He said, "It's just great to be part of teams with these kind of teammates and with these coaches, they're great coaches, and just to be a part of this high school."
Ian plans on attending the Air Force Academy next year and says he will play football for coach Troy Calhoun and the Falcons. He's projected as an outside linebacker.
