Pueblo students giving back for the holidays

Some Pueblo students are trying to make sure people who are in need of essentials this Christmas get them.

Socks, shirts, sweaters, and hats; the students with First Church of God took in donations and rounded up enough gear to help about 100 people. They call their group the "God Squad." They spent Christmas Eve handing the stuff out at the Pueblo Community Soup Kitchen.

This is the third year for the project.

"I'm looking forward to the smiles on these peoples faces," says Shayla Smith, a Pueblo South High School student helping with the God Squad. "It'll just make me happy to give, instead of get."

The need is more glaring over the holidays, but organizers hope events like this get the kids trying to find ways to help all year long.
