Pueblo school gets grant money for fitness

With obesity rampant among our young people, Roncalli Middle School in Pueblo continues to receive grant money to help students stay fit.

Today "Miles" the official Denver Broncos mascot was at the school. He encouraged students to exercise for 60 minutes a day and eat healthier.

In the past two years, Roncalli has received $6,000 in grant money to promote fitness. The grants come from Western Dairy Association.

"We know now students do very little when it comes to physical activity unless they're on a sports team, so we want to promote physical activity within our school," said Kelly Anaya, a 6th grade teacher.

Roncalli plans to use the money to add healthier food options to their lunch menu, organize more dances and buy equipment for foursquare and tether ball during recess.
