EAGLE, Colo. (AP) - A Pueblo man faces vehicular homicide charges after police say he was drunk and speeding in June when he flipped his car in Avon, killing a passenger.
The Eagle County District Attorney's Office filed charges Monday against 25-year-old Emmanuel Villeda. Authorities say Villeda was driving at speeds around 140 miles per hour after leaving a restaurant with friends on June 9. The car flipped one and one half times before coming to a rest on its roof.
A passenger in the car, 22-year-old Rafael Torres-Ortiz, was killed in the crash. Villeda and two other passengers were seriously injured in the rollover crash, which wasn't discovered until the next day when a morning commuter discovered the wreckage with people pinned inside.
Villeda is due back in court on Aug. 26.
