Pueblo non-profit CEO terminated

The board of a former Goodwill thrift store fired its CEO on Friday, David Skul.

David Skul was the CEO of Green Services, which is the new name of the former Goodwill thrift store in the Belmont neighborhood in Pueblo.
Skul was put on paid administrative leave earlier this week. and Friday, board chairman Frank Klein said Skul was fired for financial transactions that hadn't been approved by the nonprofit group's board.

Skul was hired to run what was then a Goodwill store after its last CEO, Debra Diaz, was arrested this spring on suspicion of embezzlement.

The store lost its Goodwill affiliation shortly afterward this summer. A Goodwill spokeswoman refused this week to say why.

When the store was reorganized as Colorado Green Services, the registered agent of that nonprofit was listed as Relativity Inc. But Relativity Inc. is a for-profit Internet marketing business owned and run by Skul himself.

Green Service chairman Frank Klein confirmed Friday that Skul had written checks to his private company and conducted other actions that the board did not know about or approve.

News First 5 tried several ways over the past few days to get in touch with Skul, to get his side of the story, but without success.

In the midst of all this, the thrift store is moving from the Belmont Shopping Center to the former Toys-R-Us store across from the Pueblo Mall.

The store's manager, James Ortega, wouldn't talk about Skul's suspension or the move.

Klein is listed on Relativity Inc.'s web site as vice-president. But Klein said he hasn't had anything to do with the company in a few years.

Diaz, the former director, will face a preliminary hearing on Monday.
