Deputy Police Chief John Ercul will retire from the Pueblo Police force at the end of the month.
Ercul joined the department in 1970 and worked in several departments including Patrol, Traffic, Internal Affairs and Support Services.
Deputy Chief Ercul serves on numerous boards and community organizations; including the Pueblo Optimist Club, the Board of Directors of the Pueblo County Historical Society, the Bessemer Historical Society, the Pueblo Animal Welfare Society (PAWS for Life), the Impossible Players Community Theater, and the Pueblo Zoological Society for which he recently served as president. He is a past board member of the Pueblo Family YMCA, the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center, and the P.C.C. Vocational Advisory Board. He also works closely with the Damon Runyon Repertory Theater Group, the Southeast Colorado Heritage Center, and the Pueblo Firefighters Historical Society, and is scheduled to appear as a ghost in this year's "Ghost Walk" for the Pueblo Domestic Violence Task Force in late September.
A reception to honor Deputy Chief Ercul will be held Monday, June 27, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Police Department's Community Room.
