Pueblo County, CO-- Retail pot shop owners and county leaders are overjoyed about yesterday's historic turnout.
You didn't have to look hard to spot the crowd. People came out in droves and waited in long lines, all wanting to leave with the same thing- marijuana.
Today, those long lines are translating into big sales.
"We hit the mark and over," said Michael Stetler, Owner of Marisol Therapeutics.
That mark was set at $30,000. By closing time, the business surpassed it, even having to turn people-who were still waiting outside- away.
Together, Marisol Therapeutics and The Greener Side brought in around $87,000 in just the first day.
"That would mean about $15,000 in taxes collected, and about $5,200 of that are coming to the county coffers," said Pueblo County Commissioner Sal Pace.
