Pueblo County has announced a prescription discount card program to help residents cope with the high price of prescriptions. Pueblo County has signed a contract to offer free prescription discount cards available from the National Association of Counties that offers average savings of 22 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

The cards, which will become available mid-May, may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. There are 30 pharmacies within Pueblo County that will accept the card, and a national network of more than 60,000 participating retail pharmacies also will honor it.

There will be no cost to county taxpayers for the cards. An announcement is planned to inform residents how they can get a card.

The program is administered by CVS Caremark.
