Pueblo council woman, residents talk trash

Pueblo residents are learning more about a proposal that would require everyone to pay for trash service. This morning Pueblo City Council woman Sandy Daff held a town hall meeting on this issue.

Under the proposal the city would be divided into about 18 districts and each district would be serviced by one trash company. This means everyone would have trash and recycling service, but you wouldn't be able to choose which company to do business with.

The city is hoping this will help reduce illegal dumping. "What we've got now isn't working. You only have to see the sofas in the alleys and trash everywhere to see that we've got to change something."

The city says contracts would be competitively bid and they may impose a market share restriction to avoid creating a monopoly. There's no timeline for when these changes could take place.
