Pueblo claims first ever girls Little League State Title

Pueblo has the best softball team in the state. The shockers won the Colorado State Little League Championship today, and now they're moving on to Nationals.

Number one-seeded Pueblo made it through the State bracket undefeated, beating Westminster 11-0 in Aurora Saturday for the 14-and-under Colorado crown. They're the first Girls Little League team from Pueblo to win state, and now they're heading to nationals. But to them it was just like every other game.

"We just used a lot of teamwork, and we just wanted to keep playing, and keep playing," says Right Fielder Tylynn Duarte. "We were just having fun. That's all we needed to do."

"I think as a team we really did good. We never got our heads down, and we helped each other get back up, and correct our mistakes," added Infielder Abby Gonzalez. "It's been a long year to get where we wanted to be."

Their next game is at Nationals is August 1st against Louisianna in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The team is having a fundraising car wash at Checker Auto Parts on Highway 50 next weekend.

Falcon school fights to save student's life

FALCON- Aden Knar, a third grade student at Falcon Virtual Academy, is in need of a life-saving bone marrow transplant. His school, Falcon Virtual Academy, will host a bone marrow donor drive tomorrow to help find a match Aden. Knar, 10, was diagnosed at age 4 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and entered remission in 2008. In November 2013, the Knar family learned that the leukemia had returned, and is now isolated in his bone marrow. In an outreach of support, Falcon Virtual Academy hosted a bone marrow donor drive in January, and will be hosting another tomorrow from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 6113 Constitution Ave., directly west of Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado. "We wanted to reach out to the family again," said Jodi Fletcher, assistant principal. Fletcher explained that more than 250 people participated in the January drive, and she hopes to have similar numbers April 19.
