Army officials say they have transported liquid and vapor samples of mustard agent from the Pueblo Chemical Depot for testing in labs in Ohio and Texas.
The samples were removed and shipped last month under Army escort.
Officials say samples were taken from 11 steel bottles designed for transporting the agent for testing during the 1980s. Vapor samples will be analyzed at a San Antonio lab for mustard agent, impurities and byproducts.
The Army says those tests were requested by the Colorado health department. Liquid samples will be analyzed at a West Jefferson, Ohio, lab to make sure testing standards have current data.
The depot has 2,600 tons of mustard agent awaiting destruction, mostly in artillery shells.
