She goes the extra mile to take care of Pueblo's senior citizens, walking more than a hundred miles a week from house to house to assist those in need. Now, the seniors she's helped for so long are giving back.
Karla Romero has served others for more than a decade; she cleans, does laundry and groceries, and manages medication so the elderly can avoid assisted living facilities and remain in their own homes. For Romero, its more than a job: it's a calling. "It's visiting with them, just talking with them actually. Because sometimes you're the only person they see all day and they just get a big ol' smile on their face," she says.
Now those seniors are showing Romero how much they appreciate her by chipping in and buying her a car so she can get to those she loves even faster.
Romero is a caretaker with Innovage Home Care; the non-profit service is covered by Medicare. For more information you can visit www.MyInnovAge.org.
