Pueblo bareback rider headed to the NFR for the second time

They say it's the gold in the buckle and the white in the knuckle.

Casey Colletti would know!

He's a 26-year-old professional bareback rider, and for the second time he's headed to the National Finals Rodeo.

We met up with him at his home in Pueblo.

Last year was the first time Casey Colletti qualified for the NFR in Las Vegas, and he almost couldn't believe it.

"When I came through the top of the hill out of Utah and into Vegas from the north, and you could see Vegas, and I was like, 'Oh man, I guess I did make it,'" said Colletti.

This year, he did it again!

He'll be one out of 15 in the nation to compete in bareback riding.

"You make it once, to make it twice almost seems harder because you want to prove that you're good enough to make it two times," said Colletti. "It just wasn't a fluke deal."

Everyday he puts on his boots and straps on his spurs.

"It doesn't matter if you get bucked off or if you're 90 points, you get off and it's just like, 'Well that was awesome. Let's do it again,'" said Colletti.

Last year he came in 5th.

"Of course the goal is to be the World Champion, be number one, have the gold buckle, of course," said Colletti.

Now you can find him each day practicing so he can do his best, but it's also about the experience, not just the competition.

"The way I figure it is, I made it there, just go out there and do the best and have fun," said Colletti. "Don't get mad or upset because it happens. I mean, the best guys get bucked off. The best guys do good. I figure since I'm there, I might as well just go have fun."

The National Finals Rodeo begins December 6th in Las Vegas.

Also qualified for the NFR is Fowler's own Wade Sumpter.

He is second in the standings for steer wrestling and has been to the NFR numerous times.

As far as the experience, he tell us it's all about the excitement and the faithful fans.

We wish both him and Casey Colletti the best of luck!
