PUEBLO, Colo.- Some new and improved changes are underway at the Pueblo Memorial Airport- in the sky and on the ground.
If you're flying out of the Pueblo airport, you can now do it through United Express, which is part of United Airlines. Flights are available twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Pueblo Memorial Airport Director Mark Lovin says the new partnership will change the quality of service. He calls it seamless and effortless.
"It allows you to book all the way from Pueblo to your final destination on any one of the United flights that are operating out of Denver International Airport," said Lovin.
Denver is the first and only pit stop. Lovin says the plane will be larger and offer more services than previous flights.
Barbara Gradishar has lived in Pueblo her entire life. She says bringing in United Express is a step up for the airport.
"I think Pueblo can be a really growing community if we pit some more modern facilities," said Gradishar.
More improvements are on the way. The city of Pueblo is investing nearly $300,000 over the next two years into upgrading the airports overall look.
In about a month, the airport will have a new ticketing counter. The screening area will also get a makeover. Eventually, new flooring will be put in and a new logo introduced.
Lovin says the modern updates will help bring the airport to 2014, but still keep it "just right" for Pueblo.
"The fact that we're small, we unintimidating, we're friendly, really fits our community well," said Lovin.
The Pueblo Memorial airport will have a "welcome" celebration for United Express Thursday at the Weisbrod Aircraft Museum. It starts at 11 a.m. The event is free of charge and open to the public. A drawing for free airline tickets will be held at the end of the event.
