Pueblo adds honorees to Medal of Honor Memorial

PUEBLO - Two dozen soldiers previously passed over for the Congressional Medal of Honor because of their racial or ethnic backgrounds were added to the list of recipients at the Pueblo Medal of Honor Memorial on Friday.

The ceremony followed the recognition given to the World War II, Korean and Vietnam War veterans by President Barack Obama in March.

Pueblo native and Medal of Honor Recipient Drew Dix and former Medal of Honor Society president H.C. Barney Barnum unveiled a new plaque listing the names which includes the newest honoree, Sgt. Kyle White.

"These are great men, who did great things for a great country and I'm glad that they were recognized," Barnum said of the veterans who were later awarded the Medal. "Anytime we can right a wrong, good on us."

The Pueblo Medal of Honor Memorial was dedicated back in 2000 by the Home of Heroes Foundation to celebrate the community's four Medal of Honor recipients.
