CORTEZ, Colo. (AP) - Prosecutors have found no misconduct by a Cortez police officer and a Montezuma County sheriff's deputy who were involved in the shooting in March.
District Attorney Russell Wasley says no charges will be filed against Cortez officer Dallas Coker and Deputy Patrick Spencer.
Authorities say the two were responding to a report of a shooting March 19 when they found 31-year-old Zachary Lee Sullivan, who allegedly started walking away from them. The Cortez Journal reports Coker and Spencer fired at Sullivan when he turned around, allegedly pointed a gun at Coker and allegedly ignored orders to
drop his weapon.
Sullivan is being held without bond on charges including attempted murder.
Sullivan's attorney, John Baxter, has declined to comment on his client's behalf.
