Property owners seek to stop hydroelectric plan

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Property owners along local creeks have filed a lawsuit seeking to stop Aspen's proposed Castle Creek hydroelectric power plant.
The suit filed Thursday in water court in Glenwood Springs claims the city abandoned its water rights for the project.
According to the Aspen Daily News, the city is seeking to build a 1.1 megawatt hydropower plant that would take water from Maroon Creek and Castle Creek.
Meanwhile, water providers are preparing to make a bid on developing hydropower at the Pueblo Dam.
The plant would cost up to $19 million. State loans, government incentives and grants would be available to pay much of the cost.
The plant would only be able to run from about April to September, when river releases are high enough to run turbines.
