We're used to seeing backpacks full of text books and notebooks, but what about food?
That's exactly what Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado is doing.
It's called "Send Hunger Packing," and it's a program where children in need get backpacks full of food on Friday all to keep their family fed over the weekend.
Each backpack contains 28 meals -- enough to feed a family of four.
The program officially kicks into high gear next week just as many kids go back to school.
Shannon Coker, Communications Director with Care and Share calls the program one of their most innovative. She says last year they distributed 24,000 backpacks to 1,400 in Southern Colorado.
