A Chilean fashion museum is the new owner of a racy black gown that was worn by Lady Diana Spencer on one of her first official engagements -- before she became Princess Diana.
The winning bid at the auction in London was more than $275,000 -- and that's several times the original estimate.
The revealing cut and the striking black color of the strapless silk taffeta dress caused a minor scandal when Diana was seen stepping out of a limousine in the outfit at a London charity event in 1981.
Though some thought it was too daring for the 19-year-old royal bride-to-be, it helped turn Diana into a fashion icon. The dress was sold Tuesday by its designers.
