PrideFest kicked off its two day celebration in Acacia Park in Colorado Springs today with Family Fun Day.
There was face painting and games for the kids and shopping and live music for all to enjoy.
The event turned twenty one this year, and as New York became the sixth state to recognize gay marriage, both former Mayor Rivera and current Mayor Back both rejected to issue a proclamation for the festival, but this didn't stop goers from having fun.
"I wish they would recognize us," says lesbian activist Amanda Mayo. "We do [the parade] every year. They shut down the streets for us. If you're willing to shut down a street for it and you're willing to notice that we're here, then why not recognize it as an actual parade," she adds.
The parade is Sunday, July 17 at noon. Activities start at 10 a.m. in Acacia Park and run until 6 p.m.
