WARSAW, Poland (AP) - Some Catholic bishops in Poland say Halloween is harmful because it promotes "diabolical" behavior. Archbishop Andrzej Dziega warned parishioners in a letter that under the guise of fun, Halloween may be "destroying the spiritual life." He urged them not to observe Halloween because its "tricks" hide "diabolical attitudes" toward hurting others. Warsaw Archbishop Kazimierz Nycz said in a website message that Halloween goes against the teaching of the Church by promoting magic and the occult. Halloween was introduced after Poland's 1989 transition to democracy and is increasingly popular, chiefly among children. It comes on the eve of All Saints' Day, a national holiday in predominantly Catholic Poland.
