Colorado Springs Police will use Twitter to send out information about cars reported stolen.

The idea is to quickly get information into the hands of citizens who may see the stolen auto. Information will include a description of the car, license plate number and the address where the car was last seen before it was stolen. The Twitter messages will include a warning not to approach the vehicle if they see it, but instead, call the Police Department.

Already in 2010, just over 1,100 vehicles have been reported stolen in Colorado Springs. Three fourths of those are eventually recovered.
