Pueblo police continue looking for a man who shot three teens on Pueblo's northside Thursday night. Marco Morales, 18, was killed. The two other teens are recovering in the hospital.
The shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m Thursday in a field near Outlook Blvd. and Buchanan Dr.
According to Sgt. Eric Bravo with the Pueblo Police Department, the shooting may have been a drug deal gone bad. Sgt. Bravo says Morales and a 17-year old asked another friend to drive them to the area to meet the suspect. Police say the driver, 18-year-old David Lucero may not have known about the drug deal.
Police say the three victims and the suspect were in the car together, when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Morales in the head. The 17-year old was shot multiple times in the chest. Lucero was shot in the arm and leg, but managed to get away and get help. "My understanding is that of the three people that were in the vehicle that were shot, one of them was able to come to a nearby home to summons help. The other two males were in the vehicle when police arrived," said Jim Billings, Pueblo Police Chief.
All three victims were taken to Parkview Medical Center. Morales died at the hospital. Police say the 17-year old is in critical but stable condition and Lucero is also in stable condition.
Shortly after the shooting police took a man into custody for questioning. The man was seen running from the area. However, police say that man was ruled out as a suspect. "He was not connected to the shooting," said Sgt. Bravo. "He was in the area. He had some sort of mental condition and ran from police," he added.
Police are still looking for the shooter.
This marks Pueblo's first homicide in 2011. Last year in Pueblo, there was one homicide during the entire year.
