Police search for man suspected of opening fire in suburban Houston apartment, killing 3

CYPRESS, Texas (AP) - Authorities are searching for a man suspected in a shooting inside a suburban Houston apartment that left three people dead and two wounded.

The incident happened about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunbury Downs Apartments, 25 miles northwest of downtown Houston.

A statement from the Harris County Sheriff's Office says a man and two women are dead after each was shot in the head. Sheriff's spokesman Alan Bernstein says another man and woman were airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Trauma Institute in Houston with similar gunshot wounds.

He says deputies have no description of the gunman. He says witnesses reported a man shot the victims inside the one-bedroom apartment, closed the apartment door and fled.

Sheriff's spokesman Thomas Gilliland says there's no evidence that anyone else was armed and fired shots.
