A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing his mother, and then forcing a standoff with local law enforcement in Limon Friday.

Police say 43-year-old Wade Cornett stabbed his mother three times, Friday afternoon around 2:30, before she was able to run to a local store to call for help.

Police made contact with Cornett at his home, but he wouldn't come out. Crisis negotiation teams from the Colorado Department of Corrections as well as the Douglas County Sheriff's office SWAT team were called in to help. Cornett eventually came out peacefully and turned himself in around 6:30 Friday evening, according to police.

Sgt. Russell Lengel with the Limon Police Department says Cornett's mother's injuries were not life threatening, but he couldn't give further detail citing an ongoing investigation.

Cornett is facing multiple felony charges, including first and second degree assault as well as possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
