Pueblo police have identified a man shot in an officer involved shooting. The 27-year old man is Robert Daniel Elmore, according to police.
Around 11 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 2300 block of Longhorn Dr. on a report of a loud disturbance. Police say an officer knocked on the front door of the home. Officers say according to witnesses, Elmore answered the door and pointed a handgun at the officer's face.
The officer fired two shots at Elmore, striking him in the chest. Elmore was taken to Parkview hospital were he died.
The officer wasn't hurt. He's been put on paid administrative leave as part of the police department's policy. The officer's name hasn't been released.
The Critical Incident Team is investigating the shooting. CIT is a group of investigators from the Pueblo Police Department, Pueblo County Sheriff's Office and Pueblo District Attorney's Office.
Pueblo County Coroner James Kramer says an autopsy is scheduled for today. Kramer says Elmore died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
