Police cell phone access expanded by Colo. House

DENVER (AP) - The Colorado House has given preliminary approval to giving police expanded powers to access cellphone information without a warrant.

The bill would require phone companies to provide law enforcement with access to the location of a phone in emergencies.

Phone companies often share such information when there is an abduction or missing person. The practice would be made state policy if the bill is approved.

One more House vote is required before the bill moves to the Senate.
