The Colorado Springs Police Department has a new system to get information from citizens about crimes that just happened, or even haven't happened yet.

TIP411 is provided by citizenobserver.com. It allows a person to send a text message to police about crimes, while staying anonymous.

A citizen simply sends a text message with CSPD included to TIP411 (847411). Officers can respond with questions, but the originator's identity stays unknown to officers.

CSPD stresses emergency calls should still go to 911.
