Dwight Gordon Jr. is charged with murder after allegedly gunning down a Fort Carson soldier and injuring a woman in a shooting at the Golden Cue bar in Colorado Springs early Saturday morning.
Though the suspect is in custody, this type of activity has grown all too familiar at the Golden Cue, located off Hancock Expressway. Since 2009 News 5 has reported a total of 5 shootings and a stabbing at that very location.
Police say several hundred witness accounts led the swat team to the Cheyenne Crest Apartment Homes off Westmeadow Drive, where the suspect was thought to be located. A stand-off followed; swat teams blasted the suspect's door and sent a robot inside, only to find that nobody was home.
Police later tracked down the suspect, Dwight Gordon Jr., who is now behind bars. But the histoy of violence at the Golden Cue paints a darker picture.
In August 2009 three people were stabbed in a parking lot brawl. Just four months later three men were shot in that same lot, and by March of 2010 another shooting went unresolved, the suspect never found. Twice in OCtober of that year, shootings occurred inside the bar.
It's a blood-stained timeline for the Golden Cue, a bar known to advertise specials for Fort Carson soldiers. At least three shooting victims have been transported by private car to Evans Hospital on Fort Carson; one of those men died Saturday morning.
News 5 asked police if there was an event planned for Fort Carson soldiers at the time of Saturday's shooting; tehy did not have an answer and bar owners weren't available for comment.
