DENVER, Colo.-- The Colorado Division of Wildlife and Operation Game Thief are offering a $1,000 reward for information about a poaching incident that happened in Park County. A bull elk and a buck mule deer were shot near Eleven Mile Reservoir last weekend.
The carcass of the elk was found on October 26 by another hunter near the intersection of County Road 100 and Road 98, south of Lake George. The deer carcass was found nearby.
"This was a senseless and greedy crime," said District Wildlife Manager Ron Zaccagnini. "We need your help to bring these people to justice. If anyone saw anything in that area, or might be able to help identify persons or vehicles, please contact us as soon as possible."
Investigators believe the bull was shot on or about October 23, while the buck was shot on the afternoon of Oct. 25. In both cases, the poachers partially field-dressed the animals and took only the heads and left the rest of the carcass behind. Under Colorado wildlife regulations, failure to utilize the edible portions of a game animal is a crime.
The DOW requests that members of the public who might have information concerning these incidents to contact Operation Game Thief at 1-877-265-6648 or your local Colorado Division of Wildlife office.
