Plea rejected by judge in fatal accident case

Pueblo County Court Judge Steve Fieldman rejected a plea agreement Thursday morning in a careless driving case that resulted in the death of an elderly Pueblo man last September.
Virginia Ginn-Weeter of Texas was cited for careless driving in an accident that happened north of Pueblo on I-25. She had apparently been distracted by her dog and moved into the wrong lane as she was passing another car, causing 79 year old Ezra Chupp to roll his vehicle. He died in the accident.
The plea agreement called for a $1,000 fine and a deferred sentence. The family wanted Ginn-Weeter to give up her driver's license.
Judge Fieldman set a trial date for July, but hopes a new plea agreement can be worked out before then.
