FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A Loveland man accused of illegally killing and eating a bear and other animals has admitted to four of 24 hunting-related criminal charges.
Paul Detwiler took a plea deal Thursday that would require him to serve probation or community corrections after he admitted to a felony charge of illegally possessing a gun and lesser charges of taking a black bear, illegally possessing wildlife and trapping.
Detwiler says he shot the bear because he feared for the safety of his daughters. He says the bear had rummaged through trash.
