Playoffs in Pueblo: CSU-P fans ready to cheer

CSU Pueblo is taking the field in possibly the biggest game since bringing the football program back; the playoffs for undefeated CSU-Pueblo start Saturday against Minnesota-Duluth.

The fans are getting into playoff mode too; some fans were out tailgating before nine in the morning.

"Since it's playoffs I thought I better bring it big this week for the tailgate, so we're having a big old breakfast and having a lot of fun," says CSU-Pueblo fan Mike Patti.

"We're fired up; first playoff game ever (current program) and our son plays, so yeah we're excited," says Mark Wadman, a parent of running back Jesse Lewis.

"It's a lot crazier at school; you can just tell the school spirit throughout," says a member of the CSU-P Softball team. "We have posters around with the boys pictures on them, and for Pueblo this is just like another Canon Game or Bell Game for us."

The energy from an unbeaten football team is rubbing off on the fans. They say the surging, re-established program is great for the school and good for Pueblo too.

"This university is filled with this whole community; La Junta, Lamar, Trinidad," says CSU-P alumnus David Aguilera. "It's excellent to see all these kids doing well."

"We're just excited to have a playoff game here in Pueblo; first time in about 25 years," says fan Shawn Jansen. "If you're going to be the best you've got to beat the best. It's a big time for us today."

We'll have the details on how the game turned out Saturday evening on News 5.
