Plane search continues near Westcliffe

WESTCLIFFE, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say up to three airplanes and an Army helicopter will search for a small plane that disappeared over the southern Colorado mountains after taking off from Arizona.
The search entered its second day on Monday. Authorities say the plane sent a distress signal shortly before air traffic controllers lost contact with it Sunday. The single-engine, six-seat Piper Malibu is registered to a Waterloo, Iowa, address. Authorities don't know how many people were on board.
It took off from Deer Valley Airport north of Phoenix at about noon on Sunday on a flight to Pueblo, Colo. Authorities say controllers lost contact with it at about 2:45 p.m. when it was over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains about 50 miles west of Pueblo.
