The Gilpin County sheriff's office says a plane crashed in the Arapahoe National Forest, but has few details.

The sheriff's office received a call at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday of smoke on Rollins Pass Road between Nederland and Winter Park. Sheriff's officials say U.S. Forest Service employees found a downed plane.

The Gilpin County says it is still trying to determine the identity and number of people in the plane. It doesn't have information about the plane, its origin or destination.

The sheriff's department and Forest Service are at the scene on Rollins Pass.
