SILVERTON, Colo. (AP) - A small plane has crashed in the southwest Colorado mountains, killing the man and woman onboard.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus said a person driving in a four-wheel drive vehicle in the San Juan Mountains reported finding the Cessna 150 about 50 feet off the road Thursday. He says he doesn't know where the plane came from or where it was headed.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office tells the Durango Herald that the plane likely crashed Wednesday night or Thursday morning on Stoney Pass near Silverton, about 320 miles southwest of Denver.

Sheriff's officials say the bodies have been recovered and autopsies will be done. No names have been released.

Federal investigators are expected at the crash site Friday.
