ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office is using pace cars in an effort to make commuters slow down on congested Colorado Highway 82.

Deputies began the experiment on Jan. 28 and will continue to drive slower on weekdays when bad driving conditions exist in an effort to force other drivers to back off.

During the 2011-12 winter season, the Colorado Department of Transportation tried using police pace cars on Interstate 70 and abandoned the project.

According to the Aspen Times (http://tinyurl.com/b8tapcc), state officials said they didn't have enough information to show whether it was working.
