It was a scary and possibly deadly situation in Widefield Saturday morning. What appeared to be a pipe bomb was found in a neighborhood just off Mesa Ridge Parkway. "At 10:32 this morning we received a call from a citizen that they had found what appeared to be an explosive device." explains Sgt. Cy Gillespie with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

We spoke to the man who found the device who didn't want to be identified. He told us he was driving near the intersection of Sneffels and Grandvalley Drive when he spotted a piece of pvc pipe in the middle of the street. When he picked it up he noticed several rounds of .50 caliber ammunition inside. The retired soldier took the explosive to his home a few blocks away and called 911. "On scene examination confirmed that it looked like a pipe bomb." explains Gillespie, "We called the bomb squad and members of the ATF came out. The bomb squad rendered it inert and we've collected it as evidence."

Luckily nobody was injured. No arrests have been made and the incident is still under investigation.
