"Pipe bomb" in Colorado Springs mailbox turns out to be a hoax

Colorado Springs police say an object found in a mailbox, thought to be a bomb, turned out to be a hoax.

Colorado Springs Police say a resident on Platte Ave., near 21st St., saw the flag up on their mailbox Sunday morning. They went out to see what was inside, but found what looked to be a pipe bomb. They called police.

Crews have remained on the scene investigating, with roads blocked off in the area; they point out that calls like this are always handled very seriously and investigated until everything is found to be safe. Police expect have the area cleared soon.
