Pilot was trained for emergency landing

A Pueblo man is safe after making an emergency landing at the airport Saturday morning. Orlando Cuevas was flying his single engine Cessna Centurion C210 when the main landing gear jammed.

With only the front wheels deployed, Cuevas made an emergency landing using the bottom of the plane to touch down on the airport's main runway.

Aviation director Mark Lovin says while not common, it's a maneuver pilot's like Cuevas are trained to do.

"It is something that, in the course of a pilot's training that they would go through the procedure of how to deploy the gear and then there's a procedure of how you actually want to land the aircraft and in this case the pilot did an outstanding job."

Once the plane was on the ground, emergency crews were able to get the gear to drop. An airport mechanic then towed the plane back to the hangar. Cuevas was the only person on board and was not injured.
