The Colorado State Patrol believes a current phone scam in our area involves callers who claim to work for the State Patrol.

According to those who have received these calls, the victim is told to send money or face lawsuits, prosecution or arrest. The news release sent out by the State Patrol says the callers can be very convincing, giving a badge number and offering the name of another Trooper, making reference to other law enforcement agencies and using other methods that lend credibility to their claims. In most cases the caller eventually becomes very aggressive.

The State Patrol says it does not participate in debt collection. If you receive a call like this, report it to the Colorado State Patrol at 635-0385.
