Swollen rivers and debris-strewn streets in the northern Philippines are giving up even more bodies today.
The toll from flooding after a tropical storm is more than 284 dead or missing, while two new storms brewing in the Pacific threaten to complicate relief efforts. Authorities ordered extra police deployed to prevent looting in abandoned communities.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council says 246 people are confirmed dead with 38 missing. Officials appealed for international aid, warning they may not have enough resources to withstand the new storms.
