Peterson Air Force base warns residents to lock cars

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AP) - Security forces at Peterson Air Force Base say they spotted dozens of unlocked vehicles, unattended MP3 players and other lapses when they went looking for opportunities that could tempt criminals.

The 21st Security Forces Squadron said this week it went looking for lapses on Aug. 6 and Oct. 14 and left 83 cards telling base residents how they had left themselves open to crime.

The squadron found 34 vehicles that were obviously unsecured, 32 instances where valuables were left in plain sight in vehicles or yards and five garages open with no owner in sight. They also found 17 vehicles that were both unsecured and had valuables in sight.
