The El Paso County Health Department wants to make quick contact with a person who left a sick bat in the drop box at the Pikes Peak Humane Society on Sunday night.

The bat was dropped off with a note that said, "bat hurt please help."

The bat was tested and found to have rabies. That means the person who dropped it off may have been exposed to rabies.

Rabies is a serious disease and almost always is fatal once symptoms begin.

The Health Department staff is asking the individual to contact them at (719) 339-3230. This number will be monitored during business hours and after hours.
